As adults, writing comes easily, for children however, writing is a whole new skill requiring time, practice and encouragement. The skill of writing begins with mark making.
We love encouraging the children to make a mark and you don’t need just a pen and paper – this week we have used paint, pens on cars, snow, foam and sand to create unusual and new ways to make a mark.
Holding a pen and controlling it with precision takes a lot of skill and involves hand-eye co-ordination and muscle control in our hands and fingers. Making marks enables children to develop their hand eye co-ordination and fine motor skills.
